Cosmetic Mole Removal
WHAT TYPES OF MOLES CAN WE TREAT?
We provide cosmetic removal of benign moles and skin tags on both the face and body. However, we do not treat cases involving giant pigmented nevi that cover extensive areas of the skin or atypical moles that may require biopsy or removal by a dermatologist. Please be aware that certain delicate areas of the face with complex moles might require specialized attention from plastic surgeons with expertise in such procedures.
For a comprehensive evaluation of your skin and moles, we recommend scheduling an initial consultation with Dr. Koh. During this session, she will provide guidance on the most suitable treatment options. It's important to note that cosmetic mole removals are not covered by MSP in BC.
We offer two primary mole and skin tag removal methods:
1. Electrosurgical Mole Removal: This method utilizes a specialized device called a Hyfrecator, which delivers controlled low-energy currents to burn off mole or skin tag cells. It's a swift and minimally invasive procedure that typically doesn't result in bleeding.
2. Surgical Mole Removal: Our doctor uses scalpels or medical scissors to excise moles. For larger moles, a deeper excision may be necessary, sometimes reaching down to the skin's fat layer. After surgery, the wound is closed with stitches, and a scab forms and eventually fades.
DOES MOLE REMOVAL HURT AND WILL I HAVE A SCAR?
The level of discomfort varies depending on the mole's size and type. For larger moles, we administer local anesthesia to minimize sensation during the procedure. Without anaesthesia, you may experience a mild burning or stinging sensation. We also provide aftercare instructions to prevent infection and scarring.
The type and size of the mole, as well as the removal method, determine the resulting scar. Surgical and Hyfrecator removal typically result in small, faint scars that fade over time. Scar healing varies by individual, with some being more prone to scarring, such as the development of keloid or hypertrophic scars.
WILL MY MOLE BE SENT FOR HISTOLOGY FOLLOWING REMOVAL?
The decision to send a removed mole for histology (biopsy) during cosmetic mole removal depends on factors like its appearance, patient preferences, and medical necessity. If a mole exhibits concerning features, it is more likely to require a biopsy performed by your family doctor, dermatologist, or plastic surgeon. Cosmetic-focused mole removals may not necessarily require histology unless requested by the patient. It's essential to discuss your healthcare provider's approach and the reasons for or against histological examination in your specific case before mole removal.

Dermal Fillers
WHAT ARE DERMAL FILLERS?
Dermal fillers are injectable medications that target and fill in hollows, fine lines and wrinkles on both the face and body. Fillers can increase the volume of your lips, lift your cheeks and plump a specific area that has lost volume due to collagen loss. Ageing causes a progressive loss of bone tissue, fat, elastin and collagen beneath the skin.
A youthful face is defined by a combination of facial fullness and skin tension. OceanAestheticsMD uses safe and natural dermal fillers to replenish the lost volume for a more youthful appearance. In contrast to other cosmetic products and treatments that bring gradual results, dermal fillers provide instantly visible benefits. Some of the products we use are made by Teoxane®, Allergan® and Galderma®. Depending on the type of filler used, the results normally last from 6 to 18 months.
HOW DO DERMAL FILLERS WORK?
Teoxane®, Allergan® and Galderma® dermal fillers are Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers which consist of a soft tissue-friendly injectable gel. It resembles a molecule found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic acid draws and binds with water and expands after injecting into treatment areas. Your skin subsequently increases in volume resulting in less sagging and wrinkling. The treatment is fairly long-lasting, but not permanent.
WHICH AREAS CAN DERMAL FILLERS TREAT?
As well as being used to correct volume loss e.g. enhancement of lips, cheeks, chin, jaw line, tear troughs and reshaping of nose, dermal fillers can also be used to correct lines e.g. upper lip lines, nose-to-mouth (nasolabial) lines and mouth-to-chin (marionette) lines.

Platelet-Rich Plasma
PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma which is an advanced, innovative anti-ageing and hair loss treatment. It harnesses the healing power within your own blood which contains potent growth factors, compounds and nutrients. When PRP is harvested from blood and reinjected into targeted treatment areas, growth factors are released which trigger new cell production.
It is effective for treating hair loss, especially male and female pattern hair loss. When used in the face (known as the “Vampire Facial”), it stimulates repair to firm up and rejuvenate your skin.
Visible results may take between 2-12 weeks and vary from person to person. For hair loss, treatments tend to last an average of 6-12 months. After completing a course of treatments, it is recommended that you have a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months.
For facial rejuvenation, results tend to last until natural ageing occurs, and maintenance treatments at 3 to 6 monthly intervals are recommended to maintain and improve the longevity of the results.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING MY TREATMENT?
A small sample of blood (10-20ml) is taken from your arm, the blood is centrifuged, then the PRP is separated from the whole blood and is ready to use. The growth factors and other regenerate molecules are then injected into the treatment area e.g. face or scalp. This treatment can also be combined with microneedling on the skin. This enables the PRP to work directly on the skin and tissues just beneath the skin for optimal aesthetic improvement.
You may experience slight redness, swelling and mild bruising – all will usually pass in a day or two. Minimal downtime, if any, is required.

SkinPen Microneedling©
WHAT IS SKINPEN MICRONEEDLING?
SkinPen microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a treatment that increases collagen in the skin by 400% after one session, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks and pigmentation. It does so by creating thousands of controlled microchannels in the skin to trigger the body’s natural wound healing process.
It is suitable for all skin types and effective on all body parts including face, neck and décolletage.
The procedure takes 30-45 minutes. Recovery time is approximately 48 hours. It is common to get mild post-procedure effects, similar to a mild to moderate sunburn. Redness will generally subside between a few hours up to 48 hours post procedure. Some people may also experience a mild peeling.
We understand that everyone is different, as a result, a bespoke treatment plan will be designed during your consultation. We highly recommend a course of 3-6 sessions for optimum results with 4-week intervals. Once completed, we recommend that patients maintain their treatments by having courses of 3 sessions once or twice a year.
